Home dialysis provides an alternative location for dialysis treatment. The treatments take place in the privacy of your own home, allowing more independence and control of your treatment. There are different options for doing dialysis at home.
Home Hemodialysis
With home hemodialysis, you are connected via a needle in your access site to an artificial kidney machine that filters your blood. When you treat at home, you can schedule the time of your prescribed treatments around the activities in your life. You must be medically stable and need a care partner trained to assist you with your treatment.

Peritoneal Dialysis
With home peritoneal dialysis, your blood is filtered using the lining of your abdomen, also called the peritoneum. Peritoneal dialysis does not require needles. A soft tube called a catheter will be placed in your abdomen to provide access to your peritoneum. You have the flexibility to do peritoneal dialysis almost anywhere. In some instances, a care partner trained to assist you may be required.
